About Polperro

The Anchorage cottage is located on the harbour in Polperro, one of Cornwall’s most popular and prettiest villages.

Nestled in a cliff ravine just a few miles from Looe, Polperro is a postcard-perfect mix of whitewashed cottages, narrow streets, and a sheltered harbour that has barely changed in centuries. Once a bustling fishing community, it has a rich smuggling history and was a busy landing point for contraband.

The coastline forms part of the 80-mile South Cornwall Heritage Coast, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. From Polperro, cliff-top walks lead east to Talland and west to Lansallos, both with beaches and historic churches.

Polperro has a charming harbour and in summer, the narrow streets bustle with visitors exploring local galleries, shops, and cafés, while in quieter months, the village feels like a retreat from the modern world.

With its picture-perfect scenery, fascinating maritime past, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, Polperro isn’t just one of Cornwall’s prettiest villages – it’s a place where history, nature, and charm meet at the water’s edge.

The harbour views, especially at sunset, are memorable.
